Bumblebee preservation & dome decorating

June 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

£120

In this workshop you will discover the basics of preparing, setting & preserving a set of amazing bumblebee specimens. You will learn the techniques of pinning bumblebees(“bumble-butts” as we like to call them!) – wait for it….you will also have help mounting pre-pinned bumblebees into a glass display dome and have the option to decorate your work of art with hand dried natural foliage such as moss & flowers to suit your own personal style!

There are 25 species of bumblebee in the UK but only 8 are considered common – These are the ones you will most likely recognise flying around gardens & flowers.

ALL curious creations you preserve get to come home with you – and last forever.

Each ticket includes:

  • 3 hour workshop with taxidermist Sherene Scott
  • Your very own preserved bumblebees (x2)
  • 4 enchanting pre pinned bees, positioned in a glass dome to proudly display at home
  • Tea, coffee refreshments will be served during the session
  • A fun, encouraging, social safe space to meet like-minded souls!

FYI: Super limited to 6 spaces – so book early to avoid disappointment!

Where to find us:

You’re gonna love this… we’re teaming up with the badass ladies at Skullen Collective Ltd for this extra-special event! It’s a gloriously quirky venue under the Tyne Bridge at Newcastle’s Quayside, so dead easy to reach from the city centre! More details on how to find us here.

No creatures are killed for this art!

Moth Studios places utmost importance in ensuring all specimens are responsibly & legally sourced, logged, stored and mounted. We love animals and treat them with the respect they deserve in both life and afterlife.

Going forward, Moth Studios will be hosting smaller alternative experiences every other month. This is a truly exclusive opportunity to learn a new unusual skill, have fun, get into the festive spirit, and preserve your own part of natural history forever!
