SUMMARY:Death's head hawk moth preservation
DESCRIPTION:Join us inside the curious setting of Moth Studios for a special evening class learning the process of entomology. \nSherene will teach you the basic techniques that entomologists practice when preserving these beautiful specimens. You will pin one Death’s head hawk moth each and then will be shown how to mount it into your own shadow box frame and everything you create in the class\, you will get to take home with you at the end of the evening! \nThe Death’s head hawk moth (Acherontia atropos or styx) It is commonly found in the southern part of Europe and throughout much of Africa\, (styx from Asia) from where it is considered to be a native species. Annually\, it migrates to parts of Britain. Have you had the opportunity to see one? Maybe this class will be your first time. This particular moth is famous for the beautiful skull like pattern on its thorax and it has became an iconic specimen from  its appearances in Dracula and Silence of the Lambs. This truly is a special workshop! \nAll tools\, specimens and frames will be provided by Moth Studios. (Tools are not to be taken home with you\, they are the property of Moth Studios) \nThere will be box frames for £12 available in the studio if you would like to protect the rest of the ‘practice’ butterflies that you pinned in the class at home. \nUnfortunately we cannot offer you our usual tea\, coffee & water refreshments due to Covid-19. \nSpecimens are obtained from sustainable sources.
